25km Open Water Swimming

5km of open water swimming over 4 events:

• 3.5km swim in the River Thames at Hampton Court
• 14km swim in the River Thames from Henley to Marlow
• 4.5km intercontinental swim across the Hellespont in Turkey, from Europe to Asia, an iconic swimming event (1h 3m)
• 3km swim in Poole Harbour, Dorset (47 mins)

To give an idea of distance, 10km is 400 lengths of a 25m pool!

“In the intercontinental swim, I finished 89th out of 270. In my 36-40 category, I finished 5th out of 30. I was actually the highest placed non-Turkish swimmer! But to put all that into perspective, two teenage Turkish girls came 1st and 2nd overall, both finishing under 44 mins!!”
